Mary Lynnette Phelps

Mary Lynnette (Breslin) Phelps, 72, peacefully transitioned to eternal rest at home on May 21, 2025. Her final days were filled with laughter, joy, and love, surrounded by her devoted children. Mary, born on December 15, 1952, in Providence, Rhode Island, was the beloved daughter of the late Francis J. Breslin and survived by her mother Mary M Breslin (Malo). Her strength and resilience was nothing short of miraculous. Mary's unwavering support of others touched all who knew her. Mary, always the peace-keeper, was known for her pleasant, gentle nature, affection, kind words and unwavering support and devotion in her role as daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Mary had several interests, including a love for reading, her "oldies" music, nature and a passion for running. Mary completed various races some of which included a 3k and a 5k. Her family is now resting assured that she is running free again. Mary was a devoted mother, survived by her loving children Lynnette M. Cox and her husband, Chip Cox; her son Edward M. Souza and his wife, Marjorie N. Souza. The sister of Frank J. Breslin, Arthur J. Breslin (Maureen), Teri-Ann Pereira, Joseph T. Breslin (Teresa), Susan M. Breslin, and James M. Breslin (Paula). Grandmother of Michael A Quaglieri (Kristen), Gianna L. Theberge (Michael), Thomas W. DiPetrillo, Bryanna L. Bourgeois, Nathanael J. Cox, Kyla M Gentile (Joseph), Eva M. Souza, Hayden M. Gardner (Madison). Great-Grandmother to Anthony, Brooklyn, Jaxson, Wyatt, Julian, Giovanni, and Vienna. She was a bonus "Mom" to many, Her legacy of love extends to her nieces, nephews and her lifelong friends. Mary attended Saint Michael's school and Central High School before continuing her education at the Community College of Rhode Island, earning her Associates Degree in Human Services. She dedicated many years to her work as the Head Records Clerk at the Coventry Police Department in Rhode Island. Mary's positivity and optimistic outlook carried her through her hardest days, she will be deeply missed by all that were blessed to have known her. Visitation will be held Saturday, May, 31st from 9:00 -11:00 a.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. in the Winfield & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory, 571 West Greenville Road, Scituate, RI. 02857
