Mary Lou McElreath

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Lou (Weatherford) McElreath, who died peacefully at home on January 8, 2025. Mary was born in Osceola, Arkansas on December 18, 1944, and she was predeceased by her beloved husband, James Kenneth “Mac” McElreath. She leaves behind a loving family that includes her four children: two daughters, Marty Lou McElreath (Michael Keirstead) and Manya Marie Holden (James Holden); and two sons, Kenneth McElreath (Laura Delmastro), and Chris McElreath (Jen French). Mary was also a cherished grandmother to Shaun, Alaina, Justine, Kyle, Samantha, Krystal, and Troy. Also a proud great-grandmother to Mac, Everett, Vince, Emmy Lou, and Shaun. Mary was cherished and loved by so many, thanks to her kind nature, beautiful smile, and wonderful sense of humor. Mary and her husband Mac travelled extensively during their 47 year marriage which was a true love affair. Mary loved her life and her greatest joy was her family. She was happiest when surrounded by her loved ones, creating memories filled with laughter, love, and warmth. She not only loved her children, but many a neighborhood child called Mary their “second Mom”. She had a limitless amount of love to give and she gave it freely, accompanied by a hug, a kind word and a home cooked meal. There were never too many people at the house. She just pulled up chairs from various rooms and fed whoever was there with her wonderful southern cooking. She also loved going out with friends, dancing, and listening to live music. Once Mary’s children grew up she went back to college and became a devoted teacher. She held a lifelong passion for early childhood education and dedicated her career to nurturing and inspiring young minds. A private memorial service to honor Mary’s life will be held in the spring at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery where she will always rest in the strong arms of her beloved husband. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your local school or boys and girls club reflecting Mary’s enduring commitment to children’s development and learning. Mary will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for her kindness, laugh, vibrant spirit, and unwavering love for her family, friends, and community.
