Ellen Thatcher

Ellen Thatcher (silver fox) at age 90 passed peacefully in her home in Westerly RI on October 19, 2021. Ellen was born July 1, 1931 in East Haven, CT the third child of Winifred and James Smith and moved to No. Haven as a young child where she attended school and made some lifelong friends. Moving to No. Guilford to a working dairy farm after marrying in 1952. She worked hard on the farm producing milk for the local Maple Shade in Guilford and tending to many animals and a large garden that fed her family throughout the year. Her homemade tomato sauce will always be a favorite. Ellen also worked FT in Wallingford at Transmission Equipment doing sales/clerical work and later in life at HES in Stonington. Her second marriage to Elwyn Thatcher in 1981 was some of the best times of her life. They spent time together taking trips and spending their days in the backyard admiring all the flowers Al would grow and share. Ellen always enjoyed crocheting for family and friends and won many ribbons at the county fairs. After her retirement and loss of Al she went on to a new chapter meeting the most wonderful people and making the best of friends. Mom’s love of Country music her entire life led her to join the CMA of RI. She enjoyed the RI Rednecks, Eddie Zach & the Hayloft Jamboree, Mishnock Barn outings, RI Senior center, casino trips and playing Bingo. Ellen was a faithful listener of WBLQ and felt like a celebrity when they would dedicate songs to her. Ellen is survived by 2 daughters, Deborah George & Janice Curry (Steven) as well as 7 Grandchildren, Josh, Christopher, Kathryn, Robert, Jennifer, Michael & Johnathan and 2 Great Grandchildren Lana & Kayleigh. Pre deceased by Elwyn Thatcher and her Siblings, Richard (Helen) Smith, Lillian (Mimi & Walter) Patterson, June (Ray) Wilber & many nieces & nephews. Ellen will be remembered for her beautiful blue eyes, Christmas cookies, positive nature & never complaining, love of food and quick wit and one liners such as never stand if you can sit and never sit if you can lie down. May you lie and rest in peace and reunite with all your loved ones waiting for you. Til we meet again stay My-T-Fine like the pudding.
