Carol B. LaPorte

Carol B. (Akey) LaPorte, born in Rochester NY on December 16th, 1946, passed away suddenly on Monday, February 17th after a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late Vivian (Akey/Proulx) Chrzan and the late Maurice Proulx. She was a resident of Cumberland, Pawtucket, Greenville, and most recently Warwick, RI. She was married for 36 years to the love of her life, the late Roland LaPorte. Together, they owned and operated Convenience Plus in Johnston for many years. Carol had many occupations, including cake decorator (while raising her young children), school bus driver, and worked her way up from a Switchboard Operator to Human Resources Manager at IGA Wetterau Food Services (later Supervalu Operations). She is known for her beautiful cakes and marzipan confections. Carol was an avid gardener and canner, nature lover with a magical green thumb, wine maker, and an amazing cook. Her family and friends will remember her fondly for her gracious hosting for dinners and gatherings and tireless entertaining abilities and talents. There was always room at the dinner tale for anyone stopping by to visit. She was such an interesting and loving person, always with a happy and funny personality, ready to tell or hear a story, and enjoy a laugh or an adventure. Everyone and everything fascinated her. She loved life. Carol was a beautiful lady with a nurturing and wholesome soul, a wonderful mother, a fun loving, trusted, and caring friend, and a most loving and active grandmother and great grandmother. She was most proud of her family and her Cherokee and Tuscarora Native American heritage. She was mostly at home outdoors, or in her various well-tended gardens. She loved caring for her beloved cat, Sali, and the many birds that frequented her bird feeders. Carol leaves her three children, John LaPorte and his fiance Allison Oswald of Plainfield CT, Michael Pay and his wife Lori Pay of Berkley MA, Lori Constable and husband Simon Constable of Richmond RI, and step daughter Lisa LaPorte of Woonsocket RI. She was the loving grandmother of Cassandra (Cassie) Pay, Elizabeth (Ellie) Pay, Christopher Pay, Sarah LaPorte, John (JJ) LaPorte, Kurtis Anderson, Sydney Anderson, Devin Anderson, and Holly Constable. She was the proud great grandmother of Emery. Carol leaves her three sisters, Darla Donovan and her husband Mark, of Lunenburg MA, Joanne Proulx of Pawtucket RI, Candace Scola and her husband Stephen of Johnston RI, her nieces Holly Jose and husband Chris of Fitchburg, MA, Stefanie Proulx, Kendra McMahon and her partner Edson of East Providence RI, and her nephew, William McMahon IV and his partner Kaleigh of East Providence RI, and many great nieces and nephews. Carol also leaves many cousins from upstate New York, as well as her best friend Stephanie Rafuse and her husband Bill from South Montville ME. While her family finds comfort knowing she is with her beloved Roland and family now, she will be sorely missed. She leaves a legacy of cooking, nurturing, unconditional love and the comfort of home. A memorial service will take place on Thursday March 20th at 11:00 a.m. in the Winfield & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory, 571 West Greenville Road, Scituate. Calling hours will be held two hours prior starting at 9:00 a.m.
