Artemis B. Ramaker

Artemis Marianthe Athena Blessis Ramaker, born Aug. 7, 1928, in Hartford, CT, passed away peacefully on Feb. 22, 2026. She was the daughter of Ebba Hansson Blessis and Constantine A. Blessis. In 1951, she married Robert Ramaker, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned more than seven decades. A resident of Wakefield, RI, since 1963, Artemis – known as Artie – was a woman of unwavering grace and lively intellect. Known for her keen mind and generous heart, she moved through life with a quiet strength that anchored her family and illuminated the lives of her many friends. To her family, she offered enduring wisdom and a steady, loving presence that shaped their lives. She is survived by her son, Samuel G. Ramaker (Laurie) of Richmond, RI, and her daughter, Martha Hazard of Westerly, RI; her beloved grandchildren, who called her Yiayia, Anastasia Golden (Kevin) of Eureka, CA; Danielle Graham (Fabian) of West Warwick, RI; Elena Manchette of Coventry, RI; Nicole Ramaker (Shea) of Madbury, NH; and Isaiah Hazard of North Kingstown, RI. She also leaves her beloved great-grandchildren Nakiah, Savaya and Zehara Graham, Stone Sampson, Dahlia Golden, and many dear nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, George Blessis, John Blessis, and Genevieve Hall. Artie graduated from Connecticut College in New London, CT, and later completed graduate studies in gerontology at the University of Rhode Island. She built a career in journalism, working for The Hartford Courant, New England Homestead magazine, and All Florida TV magazine. She was also active in her community, serving on the South Kingstown Planning Board and boards of the Narragansett Library Association, South County Museum, Courthouse Center for the Arts, and Indian Run Garden Club. A longtime member of Peace Dale Congregational Church, Artie was a founding member of Peace Dale United Housing Corp. and served as the first administrator of both Peace Dale House and Peace Dale Estates. A celebration of Artie’s life will be held at 11 a.m. April 25th at Peace Dale Congregational Church.
