Eleanor J. Willey

Eleanor J Willey (Santo), 92, of Providence, Rhode Island passed away on September 10, 2014 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence. Eleanor was born in eastern Connecticut, spending most of her life there, and graduated with honors from both the Norwich Free Academy and Willimantic State Teachers College. She was a World War II veteran having served in the WACS, and was a long time English and Social Studies teacher at RHAM High School in Hebron, Connecticut. Eleanor had a keen interest in, and closely followed, national politics. She was an avid gardener and always insisted on starting her plants from seeds. Beginning in early spring her windowsills would be filled with trays of aspiring seedlings that she generously shared with neighbors and friends. Eleanor is survived by her three children: Christine Taylor of Kensington, MD, Raymond Jasinski of Chapel Hill, NC and Jill Duff of East Greenwich, RI; and two grandchildren, Laura and Graham Duff.Eleanor's ashes will be interred in Newport, Virginia where she enjoyed many years of retirement.
