Ruth C. Simmons

On Monday, May 23, 2022, Ruth C. Simmons, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 95. Ruth was born on June 10, 1926, in Warwick, RI. As a longtime resident of Cranston, she cherished her community, her family and friends, and any animal that crossed her path. Ruth was involved in many organizations such as the Signet Chapter #21 Eastern Star, Pawtucket Assembly #217 S.O.O.B and was actively involved in many Masonic and Shrine events. She was a member of Oaklawn Baptist Church, where she enjoyed volunteering for the annual May breakfast as well as participating in various women’s groups. As a talented seamstress, Ruth frequently made clothing for those in need. She could often be found with knitting needles in hand, hard at work making prayer shawls for her church, mittens and booties for children, and various scarfs for her grandchildren. In her free time, Ruth loved to go camping, cheer on her favorite Boston sports teams and was an avid square dancer, attending many conventions over the years. She was a loving friend and neighbor to so many, and will be remembered for her fun-loving personality, quick wit, and lively spirit. Ruth is survived by her son L. Kimball Simmons III and his wife June of New Seabury, MA, and their four children: Chrissy McGrath and husband Ryan of Dorchester, MA; Kerry Simmons and fiancé Joshua Guerin of Smithfield, RI; Lindsay Simmons and boyfriend Josh Danis of Essex Junction, VT; Ryan Simmons of Quincy, MA. She is also survived by her daughter Linda Lukas and husband Mark of Centennial, CO and their three children: Michelle Lukas of Centennial, CO; Jessica Pacenza and husband Nick of Centennial, CO; Jennifer Dement and husband Eric of New York, NY; and their four grandchildren. Ruth was predeceased by her husband L. Kimball Simmons Jr, brother Earl S. Clark, and mother Ruth Carson Brown. There will be a graveside service at the North Burial Ground in Providence, RI on June 3rd, 2022, at 11:00am.
