E. Karol Alexander

E. Karol Alexander, 70, of Charlestown, RI passed away on Sept 14, 2022 after a prolonged illness. Karol was born October 4. 1951 to Edith and Robert Alexander in Burbank, CA. After the passing of her father Bob, Edith remarried Barton P. Jenks III and raised four children. Karol was a 1970 graduate of The Walnut Hill School in Natick, MA and a 1983 graduate of Boston University where she majored in History and minored in English Literature, two of her passions. Karol joined the United States Coast Guard in 1975, as the first woman to join the USCG in Rhode Island where she served in a variety of locations. After retiring she made her home in Connecticut and Rhode Island and was a 'jack of all trades', including owning her own balloon business, a long and rewarding career with Amtrak, Veteran’s advocacy and photojournalism. She was a long term substitute teacher at Ellis Tech and Chariho school system and enjoyed the challenge of teaching a number of subjects. Karol had many friends who became family especially family she gained in Canada through her mother. Karol had a strong love for Canada which she considered a second home. Karol was known by her family and friends to be loving, loyal, feisty and passionate. She enjoyed sharing her knowledge of history in her interactions with everyone she met. Her hobbies included gardening, canning, photography and especially reading a wide variety of subjects. She could always be found with a book by her side. Karol is survived by her loving daughter Tabitha Alexander and her wife Erin Cornelius of Middleborough, MA as well as her daughter Jennifer Bishop and husband Jason of Lake Stevens, WA and son Stephen Kynaston of Grand Bay, AL as well as many grandchildren. Karol also leaves behind her sisters Elizabeth (Dee) Laver of Portishead, England, Michelle Jenks and Greg Golinski of Simsbury, CT and brother Daniel Jenks and wife Mary of Highland Park, IL. A military committal service will be held Monday September 26th at 11:00 a.m. at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Please gather at the administration parking lot no later than 10:45 a.m.
