Gloria E. Hicks

Gloria E. (Olson) Hicks, 80, of Riverside passed away Sunday May 14, 2017 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center. She was the beloved wife of Lawrence E. Hicks Sr. for 61 years. Born in Providence RI., she was the daughter of the late Harry A. and Gladys (Peterson) Olson. Gloria was employed as a tax consultant for H&R Block for 29 years. As a young woman she enjoyed roller skating and competing in roller dance competitions. Gloria and her husband enjoyed ball room dancing. They also enjoyed driving along the harbor side together. Gloria's favorite pastime was spending time with her husband. She was an accomplished bowler, seamstress and cake decorator. Gloria enjoyed life and took considerable effort to ensure her home was decorated for every holiday. She had a special affection for her pets throughout her life. She especially loved attending her children and grandchildren's many activities and rarely missed an event. She was very proud of her family. Gloria especially loved golfing, played in multiple leagues and scored an ace (hole in one) at Silver Spring golf course. Besides her husband, she is survived by her beloved children, Kathleen A. Banigan and her husband John of Riverside RI., Lawrence E. Hicks Jr. and his wife Kimberly of Bristol RI., and Stephen C. Hicks and his wife Kelly of Barrington RI. In addition she is survived by her grandchildren, Kyle Hicks and his wife Alisha of Bristol RI., Erin (Banigan) Houle and her husband James of Riverside RI., Lyndsey Hicks of Bristol RI., Hailey Hicks of Barrington RI., and William Hicks of Barrington RI., and her great granddaughter Avery Hicks of Bristol RI. A memorial service will be held at 10 am on Friday May 26, 2017 at Saints Matthew & Mark Episcopal Church, 5 Chapel Road Barrington, RI 02806. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Matthew & Mark Episcopal Church, or the American Lung Association.
